Ceftriaxone Sodium for Injection

[Indications]
Clinically used for the infections due to susceptible pathogens:
- Respiratory tract infections: pneumonia, bronchitis, pulmonary suppuration, pyothorax
- Otorhinolaryngologic infections
- Renal and urinary tract infections: pyelonephritis, prostatitis, cystitis, urethritis.
- Urogenital infections, especially for gonorrhea and soft chancre.
- Abdominal infections: peritonitis, biliary and gastrointestinal infections
- Meningitis
- Joints, soft tissue, skin and wound infections
- Burn infection
- Septicemia
- Pre-surgical prophylaxis and post-operative infections
[Method of use]
For IM administration: Ceftriaxone 1g is dissolved in 3.5ml of 1% lidocaine solution and administered by deep intragluteal injection. It is recommended that not more than 1g be injected on either side.
For IV administration: Ceftriaxone 1g is dissolved in 10ml sterile water for injection, and then administered by IV injection lasting 2~4 minutes.
For intravenous infusion: Ceftriaxone 2g are dissolved in 40ml of one of the following calcium-free infusion solutions: sodium chloride 0.9%, sodium chloride 0.45%+dextrose 2.5%, dextrose 5%, dextrose 10%, levulose 5%, dextran 6% in dextrose, sterile water for injection. The infusion solutions should not be mixed with other antimicrobial drugs or into diluent solutions other than listed above, owing to possible incompatibility.
[Usual dosages]
- Adults: I.M. or V/gtt. 1~2g once per day. Dosage can be increased to 3~4g per day in severe infections, with 12-hourly V/gtt. 1.5~2g.
In Lyme disease: 2g per day, as one injection.
- Children and infants: 20~80mg/kg/day, V/gtt. in divided doses.
- In gonorrhea: the recommended dosage is I.M. 0.25g as one injection.
